I've blogged before about text editors on the iPad, and how useful Textastic and Gusto are. But despite their brilliance there was one thing notably missing for intensive real-world use, and this is what Textforce brings to the table: regular expressions.
I have to confess, I'd prefer more local file exchange options with this iOS app instead of having to communicate through Dropbox but that doesn't take away from the importance of finally seeing a text editor with regular expressions on the iPad.
It is a great step while I continue to wait for an iOS word processor with the same functionality. Once this arrives, I can get to work on doc files without the need to work in Word or OpenOffice on the desktop or laptop – which will be good for XML.
Update: Textastic v.4.0 released 10 March 2012 adds regular expressions to its find and replace and also some fantastic additional keyboard buttons for special characters and numbers that save oodles of time once you learn how to use them.
