So you've bought a DRM-free EPUB and want to read it on a Kindle (instructions for OS X)

There are four steps to convert a DRM-free EPUB to Kindle format:
  1. Download and install Kindle Previewer
  2. Open Kindle Previewer. You might be prompted at this point to install Java SE 6 runtime. If so, click "More Info..." on the dialogue box that appears. You'll then be taken to the Apple site where you can download Java for OS X 2014-001. Download and install, then open Kindle Previewer again.
  3. Once you have Kindle Previewer open, click on the "Open Book to preview" link and locate the EPUB you wish to convert.
  4. Once compiled there will be a "The output file has been generated here" link. Click on the link and you will be taken to the Kindle file.
Now you have the mobi file you can upload it to your Kindle devices and apps using Send to Kindle by following these four steps:
  1. Download and install Send to Kindle
  2. Open and enter your Amazon username and password
  3. Drag your newly created mobi file to the Send to Kindle app icon on the dock
  4. A dialogue box will open where you can fine tune title and author, along with the devices or apps you wish to send the book to
And that's all there is to it. The quality of the output will largely depend on how Kindle-friendly the EPUB formatting is, but in most cases you should get good results.
